Author Guidelines

Manuscript Preparation

Language:Manuscripts are accepted in English. British English spelling and punctuation are preferred.

Manuscript Types and Word Length:

  • In the section “Themes and perspectives” (monographic section), papers must be between 35.000 and 45.000 characters (length includes footnotes, references and spaces, but do not include abstract and keywords). 
  • In the section “Comments and debates”, papers must be between 15.000 and 25.000 characters (length includes footnotes, references and spaces, but do not include abstract and keywords). 
  • In the section “Reviews and reports”, papers must not exceed 10.000 characters (length includes footnotes, references and spaces). 

Abstract: Every manuscript submitted for any of the sections must be accompanied by an abstract, which should contain no more than 150 words.

Keywords: No more than five keywords need to be provided.

Page Layout: top 2.5cm; bottom: 2.5cm; left: 2cm; right: 2cm; binding: 0cm

Title Page: The title page, should have no page number and is submitted separately from the rest of the text, will include the title, the name of the author(s), affiliation(s), address(es) and e-mail for correspondence. In case of more than one author, the corresponding author needs to be indicated.

Title: Palatino Linotype; Font Size: 14, italics

Authors’ Names: Palatino Linotype; Font Size: 11 (Full name of authors: First name and Family name)

Affiliations:  Palatino Linotype; Font Size: 9 (Department, University, City, Country – telephone number – e-mail)

Abstract and Keywords: Palatino Linotype; Font Size: 9  (max 150 words)

Text: Palatino Linotype; Font Size:11. The text is single-spaced; use italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses);

Headings of Sections should be concise. (First Level): Palatino Linotype; Font Size:11, italics; (Second Level): Palatino Linotype; Font Size: 11.

Text in Tables: Palatino Linotype; Font Size: 9

Illustrations, Figures, Images and Tables: are to be placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end. It is also highly recommended that figures and data necessary to create each figure are sent as separate files.

Footnotes: Any additional notes to the main text must be included as footnotes. Palatino Linotype; Font Size: 9 

Manuscript Style: The APA Style (download PDF “Quick Orientation To APA Style - 5th Edition”) is to be used both in the text and in the references list (Palatino Linotype; Font size: 9).  

Anonymity for Peer-review:

Each manuscript submitted to JMK will be subject to double-blind peer reviewing. Authors need to make sure that the manuscript does not include any information that can give away their identity. The key items that need to be observed are the following:

  • Names and affiliations under the title within the manuscript need to be removed
  • The third person should be used when referring to work the authors have previously undertaken, e.g. phrases like “as we have explained elsewhere” with “… has been explained elsewhere [Anonymous, 2014] .
  • Figures should not contain any affiliation or name of author
  • Papers published by the author in the text should be cited:  ‘[Anonymous, 2014]’.
  • In the reference list omit all publications by the authors substituting the reference with:  ‘[Anonymous 2014] Details omitted for double-blind reviewing.’
  • References to funding sources should be omitted
  • Acknowledgments should not be included
  • Names and properties of documents should be checked to ensure anonymity.

The editorial board will communicate the decisions to the authors within 60 days from submission and will provide the review reports sent by referees.


Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The author declare that he/she have read and accepted the Copyright Notice and the Open Access Policy
  3. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  4. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  5. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  6. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  7. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Copyright Notice

Authors who publish in this journal agree with the following points:

  1. The author(s) guarantee(s) that the article is original and it has not previously published and it has not been sent to other journals for consideration.
  2. The author(s) declare(s) that the work does not violate the copyright of third parties and assume the full personal and financial responsibility for any legal action which may be brought by third parties against the ICSR Mediterranean Knowledge
  3. The author(s) retain(s) the rights of the work and grant to the ICSR Mediterranean Knowledge the right to publish the work in digital edition with the licence Creative Commons Attribution Licence 4.0 (CC BY-NC-ND) or in any other form that the publisher considers opportune for the maximum dissemination. This attribution allows others to share the work, indicating the authorship and the initial publication in this journal.
  4. The authors can establish other arrangements with non-exclusive license to distribute the published version of the work (eg. deposit it in an institutional archive or publish it in a monograph), indicating that it was first published in the Journal of Mediterranean Knoweldge – JMK.
